Option Blocks and Entry Criteria

Specific criteria in relation to minimum academic entrance requirements for admission to the post-16 provision.

A Levels

In order to study A levels students will need to have at least 5 Grade 5’s at GCSE and a minimum of a grade 5 in that subject at GCSE.

Students need to choose to study three subjects in total - one subject from three blocks.

• For most subjects a GCSE pass at grade 5 or above in the subject
• For Psychology, Politics and Sociology a GCSE pass at grade 5 or above in English
• For History and Geography a GCSE pass at grade 5 or above in English and History / Geography
• For Economics a GCSE pass at grade 6 or above in English and Mathematics
• For Sciences a GCSE pass at grade 6,6 or above in additional sciences or a grade 6 or above in two or more single sciences
• For Mathematics a GCSE pass at grade 7 or above in Mathematics
• For Further Maths a GCSE pass at grade 8 or above in Mathematics

Vocational Level 3 Courses including BTEC

In order to study the Level Three Vocational courses, you will need to have 4 grade 4’s at GCSE and a Merit at BTEC in that subject and preferably a level 4 in English Language and Maths.

Students need to choose to study one subject from three blocks. Level 3 students must choose three subjects from the four blocks, only one subject can be chosen from each block. Level 3 students who have Turkish GCSE grade 4 and above have the option of choosing A level Turkish in additional to their option choices.

If you intend to study an Applied Double Award you must choose the single and double award options in both columns. You can mix your choices and study ‘A’ levels and applied courses but you cannot choose more than one from each block.
