Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Year 6-7 Transition

From Primary to Secondary School

Students joining our Academy all have the opportunity to build relationships with us and learn about the next stages of their education prior to starting with us in September.

Primary students and parents are invited to a New Families Welcome Evening in the summer term of Y6 where they are given information about our Academy have the opportunity to discuss any potential queries or concerns they have about the transition process.

All year 6 students are invited into the Academy for taster day which is now a 2 day event, where they will meet their form tutor and their peers for the next 5 years. We hope that this helps to settle some of the nerves that come with changing environments - especially since we understand how daunting it can be knowing you are the newest and youngest members of our community. With our taster day, our prospective students go home safe in the knowledge that they have walked the corridors of the Academy, met their teacher, and most importantly made friends. They will learn valuable information about their new school and we hope to ease any worries they may have. Transition is a big step, and we will be here to support our new students every step of they way!

In preparation for the transition process, we also work with our local primary schools throughout the year, offering LEARN sessions in a variety of subjects such as Food Technology, MFL, Science, PE, basketball & Design technology to name just a few. We have worked with Y5 students from Prince of Wales, Chesterfield, Freezywater, Honilands and Keys Meadows. We have been running this for a few years now and it continues to gain in popularity. Our aim is to allow students to gain an insight into lessons at secondary school and it also allows them to meet some of the staff and teachers before they come to Oasis. Building good relations with our community is important to us and forms part of our ethos here at Oasis Academy Enfield. Some of your children may have already visited with us and taken part in one of our sessions!

Our very own Basketball Academy Coach Perry Lawson, is also working with our local primaries via afterschool enrichment projects, supported by our 6th form basketball students. This allows both our local primary students and our 6th form students to develop new skills in teamwork, sportsmanship, building relations and developing coaching skills.

Our Performing Arts department also offers workshops to Y5 & Y6 students in their own schools or by visiting with us at Oasis, offering them the opportunity to watch our 6th form students perform, and then also get involved themselves developing their own artistic and performance skills!

KS3 Diploma & Journey

Here at Oasis Academy Enfield, we have recently designed and launched our KS3 Diploma that runs through Y7-Y9. We aim for Oasis Academy Enfield students to learn and establish good study skills and learning habits during the KS3 years that will prove invaluable when working towards their GCSE exams in KS4. In addition to meeting academic demands, we also encourage students to participate fully in the OAE community, rather than just seeing school simply as a place to attend lessons. The KS3 Diploma supports students development both academically and personally by using the 3 strands- Pastoral, Creative and Academic.

Alongside the diploma, we have developed the KS3 Journey which allows our students to develop skills outside of the classroom through student experience. They will have the opportunity to take part in team building ventures such as paddleboarding and raft building. They will visit museums such as the Natural History Museum, London Dungeons, British Science Museum and watch a show at the West End! We arrange workshops for external providers giving our students a wide range of experiences and opportunity to develop skills and knowledge to aid their journey here with us at Oasis Academy Enfield. This sense of belonging should mean that they remain engaged and develop some ownership and involvement in their learning through to later years. Student success is celebrated at the end of each year, working up to our big KS3 Diploma Celebrations Evening in Y9 when we invite parents in to showcase student achievement.

Here is a link to our KS3 Diploma booklet which out lines the 3 strands of development. This is just one of the many new experiences that we have on offer to our students. If you would like to find out more, please sign up to our parent newsletter!

You can find our KS3 Diploma booklet here.

We understand how daunting transition can be and we want to do all we can to support our students through this stage. It is our priority to help with this change, therefore we welcome any feedback and support from parents and carers on making this process easier for their children.

Horizons

As from September 2021, all students at Oasis Academy Enfield have received an iPad to help them with their learning. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop new ways in which they learn and engage with education. With so many great online learning platforms available, we aim to use this as a way of extending and developing their learning, both in and out of the Academy.

Staying on for Sixth Form

We hope that we have made enough of a lasting positive impression on our students that they stay with us for sixth form!

Throughout Year 11, our students will have the opportunity to meet with our current sixth form committee to get a feel of what our sixth form can offer. To find out more about our Sixth Form click here

Parents and carers are also invited to attend a Sixth Form Open evening with their son/daughter where you will learn more about our Academy offer and get to talk to our A Level and BTEC subject leads about what their courses involve and the type of applicant they are looking for. Application forms and options leaflets will be given out during the information evening, however these are available during the year also.
