Year 6-7 Transition
From Primary to Secondary School
Students joining our Academy all have the opportunity to build relationships with us and learn about the next stages of their education prior to starting with us in September.
Primary students and parents have a transition parents meeting in the summer term where they are given information about our Academy and who will be the class tutor for their time at Oasis Academy Enfield. It is a great opportunity to build a relationship with the Academy as you will get to ask questions and find out that valuable information, including who's who.
All year 6 students are invited in to the Academy for a taster day, where they will meet their form tutor and their peers for the next 5 years. We hope that this helps to settle some of the nerves that come with changing environments - especially since we understand how daunting it can be knowing you are the newest and youngest members of the family! With our taster day, our prospective students go home safe in the knowledge that they have walked the corridors of the Academy, met their teacher and most importantly made friends.
We are also rolling out some virtual taster sessions to our local primary schools, where students can take part in a variety of sessions including PE, MFL, Music and Science! Our aim is to allow students to gain an insight into lessons at secondary school and it also allows them to meet some of the staff and teachers before they come to Oasis.
As well as taster sessions, we will be holding our Annual Summer school event, dates will be posted soon. This proved extremely popular last year, and was a great way for students to get to know some of our staff prior to September. We held a variety of sessions such as Drama, Fencing, English, Maths, Craft and even bike riding! It was a 3 day event and finished with celebrations for all of the students achievements with certificates, prizes and even a Summer School King and Queen.
New Year 7 students taking part in an Arts and Craft session. They made personalised name signs using a variety of art materials!
Here is one that was made in our Summer School last year.
All students took part in a fencing lesson!
Party fun! Time to make new friends
Warm up time before the cycling session starts. Two students walked away from this session having learned how to ride a bike for the first time. Success!
And, of course, you can’t have Summer School without crowning a King and Queen.
Horizons
Staying on for Sixth Form
We hope that we have made enough of a lasting positive impression on our students that they stay with us for sixth form!
Throughout Year 11, our students will have the opportunity to meet with our current sixth form committee to get a feel of what our sixth form can offer. To find out more about our Sixth Form click here.
Parents and carers are also invited to attend a Sixth Form Open evening with their son/daughter where you will learn more about our Academy offer and get to talk to our A Level and BTEC subject leads about what their courses involve and the type of applicant they are looking for. Application forms and options leaflets will be given out during the information evening, however these are available during the year also.
