Friends of Oasis

The friends of Oasis Academy Enfield is our brand new parents' organisation. The group meet roughly once a Module to discuss fundraising ideas. The group is mainly responsible for organising events for students and their families and for
fundraising to provide extra resources for students and their families.

Last term we held our first meeting .Thank you to those of you who were able to come despite the hot weather. It was a great meeting and really encouraging to meet with people with so many ideas and so much expertise to share.

The group have lots of plans for the year which will include a quiz night in the first term, possibly working with the music department to put on a candlelit event in the winter, a ladies event around Valentine's Day, a student event such as a disco and a summer barbeque or fete.

There will be roughly 1event per term and we would love as many parents as possible to get involved. We will also be looking at all the other ways that we can raise funds to continuously improve our Academy.

On Learning Review Day Zero which will was held on Thursday 3rd September, the Friends of Oasis Enfield served teas and coffees. Thanks so much to all those who helped out!!

Our first Friends of Oasis meeting this term will be held at the Academy, in the Board Room on Thursday 1st October from 5.00-6.00pm. During this meeting we will elect a chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer of the group and will agree on the rest of the committee members. If you would like to stand for any of these posts please be prepared to talk briefly about this during the meeting. The main purpose of this evening however will be to organise the quiz night.

At Learning Review day 0 we asked parents who would like to help out with the quiz to sign up. Even if you do not wish to become a formal member of the Friends group, any offers of help for the Quiz night and at any time, will always be appreciated.

Thank again to all those who attended. It is really exciting that we have got our parent group started.

Remember we have a second Parent group, The Parent Carer forum, who meet to discuss issues concerning Teaching and Learning at the academy. This group is chaired by the Parent Academy councillors(governors) who then take issues raised back to the Academy council for discussion.

The first meeting of this group this year, will be held at the Academy, in the Lecture Theatre, from 5.00-6.00pm on 12th November. We will be discussing, Extended Learning, Marking and Assessment and senior members of staff will be presenting on these issues. Please come along if you would like to learn more about our approach to these issues here at the Academy.
